Auditions
Join us! Esprit de Choeur welcomes highly experienced and skilled classically based singers. Singing with Esprit is rewarding! In order to maintain the level of musical excellence desired, it is also a significant commitment whereby you are required to attend rehearsals, learn your music outside of rehearsal time, volunteer in various choir related activities, and participate in other performance opportunities outside of the concert program.
Please take a moment to listen to the recordings found online to help assess if this choir might be for you. As Esprit de Choeur is a classical choir, your technique should reflect this. You should be comfortable identifying major and minor key signatures and sight reading in the audition. Please contact us to introduce yourself and highlight your choral experiences.
All singers selected for an audition will have an appointment, typically prior to a choir rehearsal. Prospective singers will be auditioned by a panel, led by the Artistic Director.
The audition will include:
- Basic vocalization and range testing with piano accompaniment
- Presentation of a song of your choice – art song or classical piece (accompanist provided; please bring an extra copy of the music)
- Sight reading of a piece provided
Esprit de Choeur rehearses on Wednesdays 6:30 – 8:30 pm, September through June. Rehearsals are usually held at Westworth United Church, 1750 Grosvenor Avenue, Winnipeg. Additional rehearsals are required and will be outlined on the rehearsal schedule.
